I participated in Football and Track & Field in high school. During my college days I dabbled in various sports spending most of my time in Volleyball. I currently enjoy hiking, AM & mild DH Mountain Biking. Little known fact…in 2005 I was part of a table tennis league, going to the quarter finals in a tournament for the under 1000 ranking. I had a blast with the sport as it’s very fast paced and requires quick decision making and reflexes. I enjoy sports of all varieties and love learning new skills regularly. In addition to CrossFit, my current favorite sport is Beer Brewing.
I started CrossFit in May of 2008 after my brother-in-law encouraged me to get involved. Fortunately he was persistent as the encouragement began six month before I started. CrossFit made sense to me, the methods and ways of compound movements and programming, but like most things, I was apprehensive about joining a box of strangers. A combination of weighing over 270#’s and a pulled hamstring while running to first base in a softball game was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Enough was enough, so I signed up with CrossFit San Jose two weeks later. Since then I’ve lost a lot of weight, gained muscle and strength, cleaned up my nutrition and eating significantly and developed many great friendships. CFSJ’s community is a big reason why I’m still here. The fitness benefits are just one aspect and the camaraderie the other.
I believe in creating a safe and friendly environment. I strive to encourage and push people beyond what they believe they can do through creating a safe and friendly, yet challenging and encouraging training environment. With regards to my programming, I enjoy mixing it up and keeping people on their toes, incorporating strength and skill development regularly to help build a better foundation for overall fitness and sport.
